“We can’t keep adding 10% to last year’s budget and calling it a plan. It’s time to be brave, start fresh, and spend smarter.”

I’m not here to sit on my hands. Waipā needs change, and I’m here to lead a smarter, stronger council that delivers real results.
Mandatory training for councillors in financial literacy, strategy, strategic thinking, strategic planning, and effective communication.
Skills-based appointments for committee chairs.
Zero-based budgeting to ensure every dollar is justified.
Transparent decision-making.
“We need to listen more, plan better, and take people with us on the journey.”
Community-led, not
council-driven
The best ideas come from empowering local voices.
Stakeholder groups and community reference panels to guide major projects.
Cambridge Connections done right; including parking strategy, public transport, cycle/walkways, interaction upgrades and identifying placement for an additional bridge for Cambridge.
Town centre revitalisation for Te Awamutu and Cambridge to stimulate business and growth.
Partnerships with mana whenua to support the Māori economy and shared aspirations.

Back to basics, and beyond
My focus is on delivery, not just discussion. That means:
Fixing infrastructure before it fails.
Investing in community hubs, such as the Cambridge Library. No more kicking the can down the road.
Fairer funding for satellite towns. Growth plans must come with real investment.
Exploring new revenue streams like community trusts and commercial partnerships to reduce the pressure on ratepayers.
“We can’t keep flogging the ratepayer or waiting for government handouts. Let’s think differently — and act decisively.”
It's time to vote for a mayor that gets things done
I’m ready to lead Waipā with courage, clarity, and common sense. If you’re ready for a leader who listens, leads, and delivers.
Vote Mike Pettit for Mayor
